Here are some interesting notes about Green Street Hooligans, which have appeared in various trivia questions on Internet boards or could well appear.

  1. Green Street Hooligans was originally called The Yank and later Hooligans before settling into its distribution name as we see it today.
  2. Green Street Hooligans was not picked up for distribution in the US and has been billed as "The Film Hollywood Doesn’t want you to see." Despite its awards and general excellence, the film did not fit the marketing bilge that most Hollywood productions require to fill seats and sell popcorn.
  3. Green Street Hooligans received its US premiere in NYC on 9/9/05 after the producers decided to self-distribute under the name OddLot Entertainment. This came after several grass-root FANS initiatives, one of which started in the Always & Forever: Elijah Wood Forum by a member (webname) Deenan, who incited enough interest to mount a nationwide, petition to get a distributor. The core group of this movement was honored with personal invitations to the NY Premiere to hob nob with Elijah Wood and cast. The distributors and cast were so proud of this grass roots effort they dubbed the thousands of fans who rallied behind the release HOOLIFANS.
  4. Charlie Hunnam (Pete) shot to fame playing an underage hustler in the gay British sit-com Queer As Folk. He then went on to star in the critically acclaimed film Nicholas Nickleby.
  5. The Tattoo of the Green Street Elite Firm are faux in the film; however, Charlie Hunnam has a tattoo on his back which is displayed in the film, and Elijah Wood has a famous tattoo on his lower stomach (which was not displayed).
  6. Terrence Jay, who plays nemesis Jeremy Van Holden, performs the rousing song One Blood, the main theme for the film.
  7. Elijah Wood sings the Firm’s song: I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles, which is one of the few times in his nearly 40 films Elijah Wood sings. The most substantial outing along these lines is in Forever Young with a lovely rendition of You are my Sunshine.
  8. Rafe Spall, who plays Swill, is the son of renowned british actor Timothy Spall (Topsy-Turvey, Harry Potter)
  9. Elijah Wood surpasses his personal best for use of the F word in this film at 13 times even more than in Ash Wednesday).

Personal Note and Trivia.

This reviewer is a HOOLIFAN and traveled 150 miles on September 9, 2005 to be the first US Citizen to purchase the first ticket sold in the United States at 11:10 AM at the Regal 14 Stadium Theatre in New York City. I hope to have Elijah Wood autograph this time stamped stub for my personal collection some day before I reach the clearing at the end of the path.
